COMPARING HONDURAN AND VENEZUELAN DEMOCRACY: IS THERE ANY COMPARISON?

Article in Jacobin I co-authored with Teri Mattson which maintains that the comparison between Honduran and Venezuelan democracy is compelling because the four arguments for sanctioning and promoting regime change in Venezuela could also be applied to the government of Honduras: the claim of violation of democratic norms and human rights, that it is a narco-state, and that there is widespread corruption. A backlash to the use of U.S. sanctions to further imperial interests appears to be manifesting itself.
