U.S. TAXPAYER DOLLARS PAY THE EXPENSES OF THE (BOGUS) GUAIDO GOVERNMENT OF VENEZUELA
The U.S. government is bankrolling the salaries and other bureaucratic expenses of the shadow government of Juan Guaidó. This is unprecedented. How did this happen? Let’s see how it did, one step at a time.
1. On January of this years, the Trump administration recognized Juan Guaidó as Venezuela’s president, in spite of the fact that no one elected him.
2. The Venezuelan company CITGO was then turned over to Guaidó’s people.
3. But then the Trump administration froze CITGO’s assets. The reason for this is that creditors of the real Venezuelan government of Nicolás Maduro threaten to go to court and have CITGO’s assets turned over to them. The Maduro government is unable to meet its financial obligations to these creditors due to the international sanctions imposed by the Trump administration against Venezuela.
4. As a result, Guaidó’s bureaucracy including “diplomats” can’t get paid. The Trump administration is stepping in and taking on these expenses.
As this video produced by Code Pink points out, the entire mess is of Trump’s own making. Unfortunately, U.S. taxpayers are footing the bill.
