Neoliberalism is more than just economics: its tentacles reach many spheres – November issue of Latin American Perspectives
The November 2019 issue of Latin American Perspectives is on the neoliberal experience in Latin America. I summarize the central thesis of the issue in the following paragraph of the introduction:
“The essays in this issue of Latin American Perspectives shed
light on the breadth of the changes ushered in by neoliberalism. The
articles taken as a whole suggest that the policies and practices associated
with it represent a profound change from what prevailed prior to its rise in
the 1980s and 1990s. A contrary view sometimes defended on the left (defended,
for instance, by the economist Andrew Kliman) minimizes the transformation that
took place and denies that neoliberalism represents a stage since the
capitalist system remained unaltered. The sum total of the articles in this
issue lends itself to the opposite thesis, namely that neoliberalism represents
a new stage whose distinguishing features have had a diverse and negative
impact on the daily lives particularly of members of the popular sectors.” https://journals.sagepub.com/toc/lapa/current?fbclid=IwAR0icqSepY3bFnrsOF_YhviD9B8Ink3GjXMV2n6KN7zP2zZI9lXx-Sncb04
