DOUBLESPEAK HILLARY CLINTON STYLE: SECRETARY OF STATE CLINTON AND THE 2009 COUP IN HONDURAS
Hillary Clinton
“You have Berta Cáceres’ Blood on your Hands” says Dana Frank, History Professor
at the University of California-Santa Cruz. Before she was assassinated on March
3, Cáceres held Clinton responsible for the coup that overthrew Manuel Zelaya in
2009. At the time, Secretary of State Clinton called the overthrow of Zelaya a “coup”
but refused to use the term “military coup” since by law Washington would have had
to shut off all aid and diplomatic relations with Honduras and prevent the new government
from sending representatives to the U.S. Candidate Clinton now denies that the overthrow
of Manuel Zelaya was unconstitutional and represented a “coup.” This is nothing
less than doublespeak. George Orwell would have been amused and impressed. Clinton
now says the military acted wrongly in removing Zelaya from Honduras (read: kidnapping
Zelaya) but that his replacement was perfectly legal. Perfectly legal! Then why
does a Wikileaks cable indicate that the U.S. embassy in Tegucigalpa considered
Zelaya’s removal from office 100 percent unconstitutional? Any reason to believe
that Hillary Clinton’s reputation of duplicity isn’t well earned? http://www.democracynow.org/2016/4/13/shes_baldly_lying_dana_frank_responds
