VENEZUELAN DILEMMA: THE SECOND PART OF THE INTERVIEW WITH ME IN SPANISH published in Aporrea

Entrevista: “Es necesario contextualizar las políticas pragmáticas y populistas del gobierno.” The duration in power of center and center-leftist governments in Latin America (in the case of Venezuela almost 17 years) is without precedent in other democratic, leftist or leftist-populist waves that came to power in Latin American countries and then were overthrown shortly thereafter. Now that the continuance of these movements in power is in danger (in the case of Venezuela, Brazil and Argentina), an objective analysis is necessary. The first step is to contextualize certain policies implemented in moments of confrontation with the opposition that created problems further down the road. I attempt to shed light on this process in the two-part interview published by Aporrea and Rebelion in Spanish and Venezuelanalysis (and Links) in English.

Dear Prof Steve

Thanks for insightful thoughts … We will follow this blog more.

I found it while looking for your email address as we want to invite you into a Latin American Studies journal in South Africa. We met at your talk on Alba last year… We still hope you can still come back in the near future for a lecture or two.

Best
