U.S. POLITICS HAS REACHED AN ALL-TIME LOW
Read this paragraph from today's NY
Times to see how the U.S. political system has reached an all-time low. A
lawyer has to get a restraining order to avoid ICE from transferring the
deportation case of his client to a district with a Republican judge. Back in
the good-old-days nobody talked about Republican and Democratic Party judges.
Legal procedures in those days were politically neutral, at least on the
surface.
“Hours later, Mr. Mahdawi’s mother,
older sister and lawyers were scrambling to find him after his abrupt detention
at an immigration center in Colchester, Vt. His lawyers requested a temporary
restraining order to prevent federal officials from transferring him to a more
conservative jurisdiction — a tactic used in the detention and attempted
deportation of at least four other college demonstrators.”
I knew theoretically speaking that
this kind of thing was possible, but I never imagined it would happen in the
near future here in the U.S. and it’s happening in real time.
