LULA'S COMEBACK IN BRAZIL

Back in 2016-2017, with the pushback against progressive Latin American governments in Argentina, Brazil and elsewhere, conservative pundits such as former Foreign Minister of Mexico Jorge Castañeda, glibly announced the death of the "Pink Tide" in the region. With recent victories of progressive candidates in Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia and now Ecuador and with the disastrous performance of neoliberal presidents and the repression they have unleashed, Castañeda’s prediction appears off the mark. What Castañeda and company did not take into account is the Pink Tide’s appeal as shown by its duration in power, its organizational strength and the extensiveness of its following.
