The centralization of ownership of the private media in the United States and elsewhere has become increasingly pronounced, at the same time that its reporting has become increasingly one-sided and monolithic. THE MICHELLE BACHELET REPORT ON HUMAN RIGHTS IN VENEZUELA IS HARDLY IMPARTIAL
Michelle Bachelet’s
report on human rights in Venezuela, which dismisses the nefarious effects of
U.S. sanctions, “is fundamentally flawed and disappointing…a missed opportunity,”
according to Alfred de Zayas, former secretary of the UN Human Rights Coundil. He adds that a "high commissioner is not independent and is subject to political pressures" The report calls on the Maduro government "to adopt structural economic reforms" (read: neoliberal formulas).
