INTERVIEW WITH ME (IN
SPANISH) ON POPULISM AND PRAGMATISM IN VENEZUELA. The zigzags, concessions and
populist measures of governments committed to socialism are often reactions to
the aggressive tactics from enemies from within and without. The deviations in
Stalin’s USSR, for instance, have to be understood in the context of the threat
of an imminent invasion by the Nazis. "Path dependency" theory
demonstrates that these types of distortions become crystallized and live on
long after the threat disappears. The following is part one of an interview with me that
explores this dynamic in the case of Chávez’s Venezuela: The centralization of ownership of the private media in the United States and elsewhere has become increasingly pronounced, at the same time that its reporting has become increasingly one-sided and monolithic. My blog seeks to expose this lack of objectivity and present alternative ideas that point in the direction of much-needed fundamental change.
